A government (from the Greek Κυβερνήτης kubernites - steersman, governor, pilot, or rudder) is an organization that has the power to make and enforce laws for a certain territory. There are several definitions on what exactly constitutes a government. In its broadest sense, 'govern' means the power to administrate, whether over an area of land, a set group of people, or an association.

A user group responsible for exercising overall control and direction of a country. The Government sector is usually broken down into central government and local government. Central government is responsible for legislation, administers certain functions on a national basis, but delegates some services to be administered by local government. The Government, national and State, has its three great departments, the executive, the legislative and the judicial; but the term government is often used to designate the executive alone.

In simplest terms, Politics are the activities of government.. It is the process and method of making decisions for groups. Although it is generally applied to governments, politics is also observed in all human group interactions including corporate, academic, and religious.

Politics has been defined in many ways. According to Heywood, politics is 'The activity through which people make, preserve and amend the general rules under which they live' (Heywood 1997: 410). According to Davis et al., 'Politics is the process by which the structure, process and institutions are brought to a decision [including non-decisions] or outcome. It is an endless activity; while politics operates, all decisions [and non-decisions and actions] are provisional' (Davis et al., 1988: 61). So politics means no decision or action is final. All decisions and actions of a government or institution of the state is open to question and is up for debate and argument and is, ultimately, subject to change.

The Spurious Hero

by: Bob Miller | Published on: 6/5/08

The hero label is possibly the most ambiguous term in the English language. Recently I mentioned in a speech to some fellow Republicans that Thomas Edward Lawrence, Dian Fossey, and Paul David Wellstone were my heroes only to have the expressions of those in attendance change from being interested to being indifferent.
